This post was one of my favorites!
Unfortunately, I learned the detriments of focusing too heavily on my goals by experience. I thought that if I did everything that I could to consume myself with my dreams and goals, they’d come faster. The result: the exact opposite.
Instead of motivating and inspiring me, focusing too heavily on my goals caused me to have unneeded anxiousness, unfulfillment, and unhappiness.
We all have big dreams. Dreams so big that they can be overwhelming. When constantly focusing on these dreams, we only amplify how far we are from them. This perceived distance from our dreams causes the very symptoms that I described above. At least it did for me.
The solution? Instead of focusing on the overwhelming building of dreams we have, focus on the bricks that it takes to get us there. When it’s all said and done, all that matters is the bricks. The bricks are what makes your dreams come alive.
Building a 100,000 sq ft brick home by hand is hard, but laying the one brick to get you there is easy.
Once I began to place my focus on the bricks, I experienced more fulfillment and my productivity skyrocketed.
Does this mean ignore your goals and dreams? Of course not! It simply means, place them in the proper perspective.
Here are a few pointers:
1. Ensure that all of your dreams and goals are broken down to brick sized activity.
2. When your dreams and goals become overwhelming, bring your focus back to the bricks.
3. Become a Master Brick Layer. The better you become at laying the bricks of your goals and dreams, the faster you will achieve them.
Don’t you love this stuff? I appreciate you reading through this post. Let’s achieve all of our goals and dreams together! I’m in your corner!
